Shitty blog vs the internet.png

Earlier this week, I attended "The Business of Content" at HillHoliday in Boston. The event featured three speakers from different aspects of this so-called content world. This was the first time in months that I took a step out of my personal world of content, and my HubSpot world of content, and went to hear how others described it.

'Purple' Ocean Strategy: The Key Behind Facebook's Continued Success

purple ocean strategy

Facebook is my favorite social network -- for both personal and business reasons. Not only does it have points of differentiation from other social networks, it also has the ability to provide everything those social networks have to offer, too. And it's doing so by unknowingly amalgamating what is traditionally called red and blue ocean strategy.

What is Red and Blue Ocean Strategy?

Red Ocean Strategy is the traditional form of business. It's simply finding a way to beat the competition rather than serve an unmet need. It's a businesses goal to provide a product or service that is already being offered -- but better than the business currently offering it. A typical example would be how Pepsi tried to become a better Coke product.

Largest gathering of inbound marketers and Muslims

The past week of my life has been absolutely insane. And while I'm not one to blog about my life -- because how interesting is someone's life anyways -- I want to share some of the most memorable quotes from my two favorite conferences in the United States: INBOUND and ISNA.

Media Magic Infographic: Get Started with LinkedIn Company Pages in 3 Simple Steps

Less than 1 in every 15 companies own a LinkedIn Company Page. The numerous companies refusing to use these company pages don't realize the real LinkedIn magic: the fact that these company pages require minimal effort but generate valuable returns.

Baby with swag.

I hate "online-firsts." First tweet, first comment, first post, you name it. I want whatever I say to set the premise for all that will follow. So as I sit here beginning a blog about 'media' news for my media planning course at Emerson, I don't want to link to the usual mashable story (but don't get me wrong, plenty of mashable links will be featured on this blog), but rather something a bit more playful.

A big part of media is advertising, thus my first post features one of my favorite advertisements: a baby walking with swag in his new jean diapers. But why is this commercial so successful? Babies are, in my opinion, one of the most difficult target audiences because they don't have the ability to purchase what they need or want. The baby is simply the consumer, while the parent is the actual customer. Yet this commercial successfully made me, not a parent or a baby, want to have a little rug rat of my own just so I could dress him in these adorable jean diapers. Well done Huggies.
